THE SHOP
The Piercing Shop was so successful that, in January of 2008, it became …AccuPierce Limited.
The first impression that the new client gets, when entering the shop, is an overall feeling of cleanliness in a pleasantly subdued setting, which is the main sales area. Here one can leisurely browse the jewellery on display or make enquiries about that secretly desired piercing.
At the rear of the sales area lies the piercing studio with it’s electrically operated couch.
The cabinets are finished in a pastel turquoise which is very restful to the eye. This theme is continued with a surgical floor in mottled green and black.
These colours are chosen to make the client feel more at ease, and this philosophy certainly seems to be effective judging by the clients who return time after time.
Strategically placed (safely) on the ceiling is an abstract art hand painted canvas that helps to distract the client from the piercing proceedure.
There is also a double sided cute animal picture on the wall opposite to the couch, where the younger clients sit to have their ears pierced. This helps to keep the head in the correct position so that the positioning of the earrings is spot-on!
Also at the rear of the sales area is another studio that houses one of the latest Eschmann sterilising autoclave machines. This is where a lot of work is performed behind the scenes.
On the second floor the sterilised equipment is Ultrasonically cleaned, rinsed and dried ready to be heat sealed by hand for the final Vacuum sterilising process when it’s put back in the autoclave.
There is another room on this floor which is Steve’s workshop. This room is where most of the Research and Development is carried out working on new ideas and projects.
On the top floor is the office. A necessary part of the whole business!
THE STUDIO
Our shop floor was dramatically altered years ago, by changing it from a sleepy old time jewellers into a clean and vibrant modern piercing studio and sales floor.
The wheelchair friendly main entrance door is now kept closed (by a simple bolt able to be used by customers) to keep a more calm and relaxing vibe in the studio. As of 2022 the three tall jewellery display units in the front window have been removed and in place, there is now a low bench for clients to sit and wait before their appointment is due.
There is now a minimum of six clients in the studio at any one time. Gone are the days of clients queuing up inside the studio and being jam packed in like sardines! Clients now prefer a less crowded studio, they say it feels more private with a more personal touch, without a big crowd of other customers being able to listen in. That being said, there are often hefty queues outside with excited customers waiting to come in!
The studio focuses more on body piercing & sells only a very small amount of body jewellery, less stock is kept because over the last few years it is the piercing that is now far more popular, body jewellery sales seem to have taken a step down. The main business operates on more of an appointment only basis where, to reserve a space, a non refundable booking fee is required, rather than a walk in set up. Walk ins are still sometimes possible if customers are lucky.
The main sales area gives a slightly warmer feel but is still efficiently clean. This is where the piercing requirements are discussed and the obligatory consent forms are completed, plus aftercare advice is given.
There is one piercing room & second back room.
The main piercing room has a pair of independently manoeuvrable daylight magnifying lamps situated above an electrically operated Teal coloured surgical couch. This couch is fully adjustable to cater for the full range of standard and exotic piercings on offer.
There is an elbow operated tap/sink unit situated in the far corner of the room where surgical gloves can be put on out of sight of young people about to undergo their first ear piercing experience. This helps to keep the atmosphere at a calm and friendly level which is helped greatly by spectators not displaying negative body language. The door to the studio is a large wheelchair friendly construct and once in the room there is ample room for an electric or manual wheelchair to turn 180 degrees. The floor is fitted out with a surgical grade covering in a pleasant speckled light green effect. The overall impression is clean but friendly with that hint of efficiency that our clients have come to rely on.
The second room is used for the first stage in the sterilisation process of piercing equipment. This is carried out prior to ultrasonically cleaning. The next process is heat sealing all the equipment in special pouches. The final stage is the vacuum sterilisation.
In the second room, Eleanor can also carry out that all important admin work emailing customers back & forth then making phone calls to book appointments in. There is no online digital booking system available, it’s all a bit old school regards that & appointments are made verbally over the telephone or in person, in studio..
